Here's why you need gelatin *daily*
If you haven't already guessed it, we LOVE gelatin as a functional food.
Derived from collagen, gelatin has all the same important health benefits due to its unique combination of amino acids, but with a lot more squishy fun!

It has been widely studied and shown to play a role in joint and gut health, brain function, and improved appearance of skin and hair health.

Gelatin vs. collagen

Did you know gelatin is simply the cooked form of collagen? It is made almost entirely of protein, and its unique amino acid profile gives it so many amazing health benefits.

Collagen (and therefore gelatin) is a protein found in humans and animals. It is found almost everywhere in the body, but is most abundant in the skin, bones, tendons and ligaments.

Collagen provides strength and structure for tissues. For example, collagen increases the flexibility of the skin and the strength of the tendons. however, it is difficult to eat collagen because it is generally found in unpalatable parts of animals. Luckily, collagen can be extracted from these parts by boiling them in water. You're probably already doing this when making soup stock to add flavour and nutrients, without even knowing it!

The gelatin extracted during this process is flavourless and colourless. It dissolves in warm water, and takes on a jelly-like texture when it cools and is the hero ingredient in our gelatin gummies for glowing health!

Note: vegans need to be aware it is made from animal sources.

Benefits of gelatin

Gelatin may improve bone and joint health

There is some evidence for the use of gelatin for joint and bone problems. Because the side effects are minimal, it is certainly worth considering as a supplement for improving bone and joint health.

Gelatin may improve the quality of skin and hair

Studies carried out on gelatin supplements show positive results for improving the appearance of skin and hair.  Evidence shows that gelatin can increase moisture and collagen density of the skin. It may also increase the thickness of hair.

Gelatin is involved with brain health

Gelatin is very rich in glycine, which has been linked to brain function.

Gelatin may help you sleep better

The amino acid glycine, which is abundant in gelatin, has been shown in several studies to help improve sleep.

and most importantly it may improve gut health.

Gelatin also plays a big a role in gut health.  One of the amino acids in gelatin, called glutamic acid, is converted to glutamine in the body. Glutamine has been shown to improve the integrity of the gut wall and help prevent 'leaky gut.'

A 'leaky gut' is when the gut wall becomes too permeable, allowing bacteria and other potentially harmful substances to pass from the gut into the bloodstream, a process that shouldn’t happen normally.

This is thought to contribute to common gut conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

But like all functional foods, be sure you're using only the best you can access. We use an Australian grass fed bovine gelatin (also Halal approved) to ensure the quality of our blends and ultimate results for you!

So forget any old childhood associations with jelly in a bowl after you've had your tonsils taken out! Adding a quality gelatin to your balanced diet is a great way to improve your gut health, hair and nail strength and overall wellbeing.
